One last farewell to SilkAir

Today on 06 May 2021, 9V-MGI took off from Singapore Changi Airport to Kathmandu as flight number MI412 and returned back to Singapore as flight number MI411 at 2020hrs. This is the final flight for SilkAir and officially marks the end of their operations.
Silk Air, regional wing of Singapore Airlines, will be merging back with its parent company. The merger was officially made known by SilkAir and Singapore Airlines by a video posted on their social media page on 28 January 2021.
The merger plan, which was first announced on 18 May 2018, highlights the plan to have a major cabin product upgrade before the full merger into Singapore Airlines.

The merger saw Silk Air's current fleet of Boeing 737-800NGs being repainted into their new Singapore Airlines colors. Not much information is available now on whether the new products are already in place. Along with the Boeing 737NGs, the Boeing 737Max which was previously operated under SilkAir will also be retrofitted and transferred to Singapore Airlines.

As for the Airbus A319s and A320s, and several of their Boeing 737NGs, they was gradually pulled out of service.

The merger officially ends the 30 over years long history of SilkAir's operation as the regional wing for Singapore Airlines. All previous flights operated by SilkAir, as well as the crews will be transferred to Singapore Airlines and budget carrier, Scoot.
