Today on March 4 2021, Singapore Airlines launched its first inaugural flight with the Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Singapore to Phuket. Flight number SQ736 departed out from Singapore Changi Airport at approximately 1631hrs (GMT +8) for Phuket, marking a new era for the national flag carrier.

The merger of the parent company and sister company, which was first announced in May 2018, aims to aid in brand awareness, as well as to ensure consistency of products and services across the Singapore Airlines Group network. The merger saw the move of the sister company slowly being integrated with Singapore Airlines, including the removal of the Airbus A319s and A320s in the SilkAir fleet, and the repainting and possible cabin retrofit of several SilkAir's Boeing 737-800 and SilkAir's Boeing 737 Max.
